It's power struggles all the way down. At the uppermost ring, downsized tech drones seek the paychecks that would give them power over their landlords, grocers and debt collectors. One circle deeper, newly enriched startup alums seek power over the drones and the tech market. Deeper still, "ethical AI researchers" and non-profiteers cloak ambition in ethics and trade in moral authority, converting principle into prestige.

At the frozen center of the ninth circle sits the tech CEO himself, your Amodei or your Altman, hard at work on the new God, but this time around, one that obeys them.

Roles at frontier AI companies feels like a 2026 gold rush - a path to real financial security. Unfortunately, more people are looking for real financial security as a result of these very products, across layoffs, automation, and the broader economy. They've dug their own hole here, a job market made desperate by the conditions they've created.
